Former Convent "Il Giardino dei Cappuccini"

Monza - MB

  • Apartments: 10

Near the center of Monza is “Il Giardino dei Cappuccini”, a former convent dating 1530 that belonged to the Capuchin Friars and has survived to this day with numerous expansion and transformation works. M.E. Real Estate took care of the conservative restoration, maintaining a visual and perceptive coherence of the original architecture of the structure and bringing to mind the ancient conformation of the convent of San Martino.

Every work, technical solution and choice of materials aimed to enhance the original historical context and the surrounding nature by combining elegance with technological innovation, historicity and modernity. The entire project followed the precise indications of the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape of Monza and Brianza.

The two-story structure develops around an internal garden and hosts eight housing solutions ranging from studios, two-room, three-room and four-room apartments, obtained with a philological restoration. Two other two-room apartments are located behind the original complex and form two extensions with a modern character but well integrated with the nature and history of the place. In the interiors we find different floorings; from classic and warm suggestions given by terracotta to more modern solutions of parquet. Vaults and wooden coffered ceilings complete the elegant atmosphere as evidence that where it was possible, the original shapes and materials have been preserved.

Great attention was also paid to nature with the green project that wanted to recover the historical elements that characterized the open spaces of the complex, reproducing the species, colors and scents that belonged to the convent gardens, while responding to the new needs for privacy of the different housing units. River pebbles and “beole” confer a refined elegance that combined with the stone benches and trees contribute to creating a unique environment with a profound suggestion.
