Cortona - AR
Granducale Village complex is located in the center of the Valdichiana between Cortona and Arezzo near the Montecchio Vesponi Castle dating back to the 11th century. It is a historical site of considerable interest as it belongs to the system of the Grand Ducal Farms and was the transit residence of the Grand Duke Leopold I of Tuscany, destined to be Emperor of Austria. The iconographic system is composed of the Villa with adjoining an orangery, a chapel and the granaries, the Farmer’s House and the Former Convent of the Sisters. The Village was once identifiable as a self-sufficient microcosm within which all the activities were carried out.
M.E. Real Estate has carried out a restoration aimed at the protection of the monumental text, but above all to its valorization relating to what are the requirements of living in our days between beauty and sustainability.
The property of the Farmer’s House and the Former Convent of the Sisters has a total of seventeen apartments and have been restored with advanced technologies. These technologies confirm the comfort of living while safeguarding the dictates of the Tuscan tradition in the use of materials, but also with a view to energy sustainability.
The Grand Ducal Villa, whose plant dates back to '600, has inside frescoes and painted stencil decorations. M.E. Real Estate has restored the exterior maintaining the original chromium both for the facade and for the “lesene” and window frames.
Outside there is an Italian style garden with a central stone cistern, extremely careful in the details as well as the adjoining chapel of the Villa.
The whole project represents a synthesis between aesthetic value and functionality, between historical and modern times embracing the contemporary housing needs.
